Natural stone which is not classified as marble or granite can have extremely different properties. Even stone types having the same denomination such as slate can vary considerably with regard to hardness and density.
Sandstone and many kinds of basalt are abrasive and do not require a wear-resistant bond. Co or Co substitutes are reinforced with tungsten or tungsten carbide here.
Slate and soapstone are often soft and hardly abrasive. They are worked with bonds based on Co or on a Co substitute.
Quartzite is often hard and dense and consequently requires a bond which is in most cases softer than a pure Co bond.
Since local properties of the different kinds of stone can have strong repercussions, individual advice is of particular importance. Our recommendations can therefore give you only a rough idea.
